There&#8217;s a LOT of Opportunity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The market for online learning was $315 billion in 2021 and is projected to observe 20% CAGR from 2022 to 2028!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter what you know how to do &#8212; there are likely tens of thousands of people who want to know what you know!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/industries\/education\/our-insights\/demand-for-online-education-is-growing-are-providers-ready\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-lasso-id=\"16219\">McKinsey<\/a>, if you want to be successful in this field, you need to do these 5 things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Meet students where they are<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transform career planning and coaching<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Revolutionize employer relationships<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deliver a distinctive learning experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Build a brand<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/diymarketers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/image-2.jpeg\" alt=\"online learning\" class=\"wp-image-79398\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But here&#8217;s something (or should I say someone) that this research didn&#8217;t really talk about &#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Seniors are ignored as online learners<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>And this is where the shocking part of our research with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-lasso-id=\"16220\">QuestionPro <\/a>uncovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These online learners aren&#8217;t kids, or college students &#8212; and they aren&#8217;t even professionals (per se) &#8212; they are seniors; people who are 65+<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/diymarketers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Screen-Shot-2022-08-16-at-6.07.21-AM.png\" alt=\"Age of online learning respondents\" class=\"wp-image-79428\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s right, the majority of online learners (in our survey) are seniors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, when we looked at the data, we found that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The largest group of online learners are people aged 65 and older (41%)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working folks (ages 25-44) were the second biggest category at about 28%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sorry, but that was SHOCKING to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Seniors LOVE to Learn<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We also wanted to understand how folks felt about learning new things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>42% LOVED learning new things<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>38% said they liked learning new things<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>80% of our respondents liked learning. That&#8217;s astonishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/diymarketers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/image-4.jpeg\" alt=\"how do you feel about learning new things\" class=\"wp-image-79402\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s layer this information and give it context;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>older people were the majority of our respondents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>older people like learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Now let&#8217;s see HOW they like learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another shocker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. 70% of Learners Prefer Online Learning<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/diymarketers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/image.jpeg\" alt=\"online learning preference\" class=\"wp-image-79399\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only do they prefer online learning, they prefer on-demand learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. On-Demand Beats LIVE Webinars<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/diymarketers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/image-1.jpeg\" alt=\"on-demand online learning\" class=\"wp-image-79397\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When we asked them where they go to learn, you can see that on-demand videos and YouTube videos (which are also on-demand) are the preferred medium for learning anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tips for Coaches, Consultants and Trainers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Create on demand content<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re a coach, consultant or trainer, these findings should give you some ideas on how to better serve your students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Seniors prefer on-demand content, so don&#8217;t worry about stressing about live webinars!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Keep your content to under 20 minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be very specific and prescriptive. Be sure to use simple language without jargon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We also asked consumers what their biggest obstacle was to learning new skills online &#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/diymarketers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/image-3.jpeg\" alt=\"obstacles to learning online\" class=\"wp-image-79401\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>One third of our respondents said they couldn&#8217;t find content on what they were looking for. Close behind was dealing with the technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So what does this mean for content creators?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Build your brand where they will find you<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/diymarketers.com\/branding-communications-talk-about-your-business\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"24006\" data-lasso-id=\"16221\">Build your brand <\/a>and establish yourself as an authority in your field, and make sure your students know who you are and what you offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most seniors are on Facebook, so make sure that you&#8217;re visible there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tailor your content to the audience<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure your content is tailored for this demographic. Keep things simple, focus on practical information, and avoid jargon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advertise on Google<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first place most seniors go is Google.
